Unlocking High-Quality Materials: Transforming Instruction for Emergent Bilinguals Across Texas
Understanding Texas instructional materials adoptions
Texas has more than 1.2 million Emergent Bilinguals, the largest in the nation. With the Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) cycle in full swing, the state is uniquely positioned to ensure Emergent Bilingual (EB) students have access to instructional materials that affirm their identities, build academic language, and accelerate content learning.
In this session, you’ll walk away with:
- A clear understanding of the IMRA cycle and its implications.
- Insights into Texas’s EB demographics, program models, and needs.
- Action steps for advocating and implementing HQIM that truly serve EBs.
Why does Texas's IMRA adoption cycle matter?
- 80% of teachers say their current materials don’t adequately support multilingual learners.
- A recent Gallup poll found that education leaders recognize the value of high-quality instructional materials in achieving student outcomes. But they don’t know how to define or identify them.
- Education leaders face a complex process, yet the right materials can free up teacher energy and creativity to bring lessons to life for every student.
